Water everywhere in your unit is never a pleasant experience.  It can cause a lot of damage not only to the walls ceiling and floor, but also to your personal items.

AMHC is responsible for repairs to the structure, but not for the replacement of your personal items.  Personal items should be covered by your tenant insurance (discussed in our last issue).

Also cause the growth of mold on drywall.

The most common cause of floods at AMHC is clogged toilets. Most of these floods can be easily avoided by taking these simple steps:

  1. Do not flush ANYTHING down a toilet other than what normally goes down a toilet. AMHC will charge back residents who cause water damage because they’ve flushed something else down the toilet.
  1. If your toilet does not flush the first time – don’t flush it again! Most toilet bowls will not hold a second tank full of water if you flush it again. An inexpensive plunger, available from the dollar store, will easily clear most clogs.
  1. If water is overflowing, turn off the water supply by turning the water shut off knoblocated behind the toilet. This will limit the water damage significantly.
